The Safe NJ Program

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), in partnership with Empower Somerset, 2nd Floor Youth Helpline and STOPit Solutions, is proud to announce SAFE NJ, an initiative to provide trauma-informed mental health and safety resources to schools across New Jersey. Funding for this program has been secured through the STOP School Violence Act Grant.

Safe NJ Program

The program will focus on connecting students, staff & parents to basic needs and community resources. It will also feature 24/7 immediate crisis support through 2nd Floor Youth Helpline, and a direct to school communication platform accessible through the Mobile App, Chromebooks or Web, and Phone. The program is powered by STOPit Solutions and supported through its 24/7/365 Incident Response Center, who monitor the program and escalate any life-threatening or imminent threat situations immediately.

STOPit provides the most comprehensive onboarding for program administrators and training for students and adults on how to recognize mental health, personal, safety, and misconduct issues and concerns.

SAFE NJ Program Components

The below solutions and services are available through the SAFE NJ Safety & Wellness Program

SAFE NJ App

Provides connections, configurable resources, support, & a platform to anonymously ask for help delivered clearly & consistently to students, staff, & families. The interface builds trust by providing choice while maintaining privacy.

2nd Floor Youth Helpline

Integrated into the SAFE NJ platform, students can direct dial or text with a NJ-Based Licensed Mental Health Counselor from 2nd Floor Youth Helpline 24/7/365.

24/7/365 Incident Response Center

STOPit's In-House Inquiry Response Specialists monitor every report that comes through the SAFE NJ program and escalates emergency or life-threatening reports based on district protocols.

Out of Hours Incident Vetting (OOH)

Rest easy knowing all incidents are reviewed, vetted, and acted upon (if necessary) by certified specialists during weekends, holidays, and other traditional out-of-business hours.

Self-Help Resources

The program is designed to seamlessly connect students and families with vital school and community resources including basic needs, ensuring timely and effective support tailored to New Jersey communities.

How It Works

Step 1: Submit an Inquiry or Report

An individual wishes to request assistance, education, or anonymously ask for help utilizing a customizable resource support platform and submits it anonymously using the SAFE NJ mobile app, Chromebook app, web portal, or telephone hotline.

Step 2: Monitor & Escalate

STOPit's 24/7/365 Inquiry/Incident Response Center monitors and escalates life-threatening incidents to school officials and law enforcement (as needed)

Step 3: Manage & Resolve

School officials receive and act upon the inquiry or report using the admin app and/or web-based Inquiry/ Incident Management System.
